General information
The fast growing global entertainment industry is an exciting and demanding field, and JAMK will provide students with the skills and practical experience they need to meet this challenge.
Students will gain the skills to produce business plans, create innovative products, organise large-scale events, design and implement marketing and production plans, and execute research projects.
The programme features a study abroad component in conjunction with JAMK’s partner universities in the United States, Estonia, The United Kingdom, Canada and the Netherlands. Students also have the option of earning a double degree with JAMK’s Dutch partner: InHolland University of Applied Sciences
Course Content
Graduates of this programme will be able to identify various opportunities to combine managerial qualities with the empathy for artists and the creative industries. They will understand the various concepts related to the management activities and styles needed in organisations. They will also develop their knowledge of the opportunities for implementation and promotion within the music and media industries.
Also at the core of our programme is the study of Intellectual Property Rights, project management and entrepreneurship.
In addition, students will have an overall perspective of international business frameworks and management. The programme applies general business and management concepts to the reality of multicultural business environments in the entertainment industries. The routine strategic decisions in marketing, business economics and managerial processes become conscious and subtle. Students will also understand the essentials of human resource management and its significance for strategic and operative processes, as well as the significance of quality management as an umbrella approach to all managerial activities
Career prospects
Once you have graduated, you will be a professional with a broad education base able to work for producers of radio and TV programmes, record companies, publishing houses and internet service providers, as well as for companies organising trade fairs, congresses and events. Of course, you will not start out immediately as a manager, but rather as an assistant manager.
Graduates of this programme are presently employed with record labels, event management companies, and other media organizations. Many graduates are entrepreneurs in the sector.
Entry requirements
NUI Matriculation requirements: 6 passes at Leaving Certificate [inc 2 at Honours C] PLUS Entrance Examination [ on 19-20 April 2011] which is sat in Finland or, probably, in London.
