Programme Outline

The 21st century might well be called the century of molecular biology. Amid wide-scale investments in life sciences all over Europe, there is a growing demand for highly specialised professionals in a range of life science fields. The master’s programme in Molecular Life Sciences focuses on state of the art methodology and the skills that enable researchers to unravel the molecular mechanisms in health and disease. The programme strives to familiarise master students with the principles of the scientific method, i.e., how new scientific knowledge is obtained in basic and applied research areas, and how this novel insight is used to the benefit of patients. Theoretical courses are taught by professionals from both the laboratory and the clinic.

The programme is offered in a cooperation between Maastricht University, the Netherlands, and Hasselt University in Diepenbeek, Belgium, together referred to as the transnational University Limburg (tUL). Both campuses house top-level research institutes in a number of areas, giving students opportunities to participate in ongoing research and receive hands-on practical experience. You register at Maastricht University and participate in learning activities in both Maastricht and Diepenbeek.

The Molecular Life Sciences programme offers four specialisations:

  • Clinical Molecular Sciences
  • Cardiovascular Biology and Medicine
  • Nutrition and Metabolism
  • Oncology and Developmental Biology
